We are originally from the Netherlands, then immigrated to Canada. After living in Montreal we moved to Michigan and have been there almost 40 years. In Montreal, Bart got into the painting and fine decorating business. Bart still does fine wood finishing and specializes in "faux finishing."
On our first trip to Florida (20 years ago) we went all over and decided the Daytona area was the best. Compared to other Florida destinations, Daytona has everything! We didn't want to come to a place where everything revolves around senior citizens. In Daytona there's all kinds of sporting events, great concerts at Peobody Auditorium, terrific restaurants and now even casino boats. But the best thing about Daytona is the shopping! There is such a variety here - from flea markets to malls - and there are bargains and great buys that are so much better than back home.
Our home in Daytona is the Colonial Palms Oceanfront Motel. It's small and cozy and we love the setting. We're not just a room number there, but part of a big friendly family where everyone feels they belong.
